Prompt Grader: score any prompt out of 100
Grading a prompt only helps if the grade means something. This one is deterministic: the same prompt always gets the same number, every dimension is visible, and the band is stated in words as well as colour.

How it works
- 1
One score, seven parts
The overall grade is a weighted average. Expanding a dimension shows what it looked for and what it found.
- 2
Bands, not just numbers
Scores map to Needs work, Fair, Good and Excellent, with a text label as well as colour, so the grade is readable for everyone.
- 3
The same scale everywhere
The score on this page is the score you see in the optimizer's before/after and next to every saved prompt in your library.
When to use it
Setting a bar for a team
"Prompts in the shared library should score 70 or better" is a rule people can actually follow.
Proving an edit helped
Grade before and after. If the number did not move, the edit was cosmetic.
Teaching prompting
Grading a few prompts side by side makes the difference concrete much faster than a list of best practices.
Frequently asked questions
What do the score bands mean?
0-39 needs work: usually one line with no context. 40-64 fair: the task is clear but context or format is missing. 65-84 good: most dimensions are covered. 85+ excellent: role, context, constraints, format and often examples are all explicit.
Can a prompt score 100?
In principle, though it rarely helps. Past about 90 you are usually adding words that do not change the answer. Aim for clear, not perfect.
Does the grade predict a good answer?
It predicts that the model has what it needs. It cannot judge whether your idea is right, whether your facts are correct, or whether the model is good at that task.
Is grading free and unlimited?
Yes. Grading runs in your browser with no AI call, so there is no daily limit and no account needed.
